Not in my lifetime
// November 5th, 2008 // No Comments » // Just Blogging, Life
Wow.
The first call I made was to my mom. A mixture of excitement and some tears came through the phone from her after the speech Obama gave was over. “Did you ever think this could happen?” I asked. “Not in my lifetime” she replied.
Not in my lifetime. I haven’t lived the life she or my father has but I had heard some stories about my dad going to a segregated school and my mom going to a non-segregated school a few years later in the town where I grew up. I can only imagine how tough life was during those times, how options were limited and how something like last nights election could move people like my mother to tears. I can only imagine the emotions my grandmother experienced watching the election and I wished that I could have been there in the moment with them both.
I look forward to talking to my parents and my grandmother over the next few days to take in the magnitude of the election from their point of view. They’ve lived through some of the ugliness in our nations history and I’m overjoyed that they’ve had the opportunity to see this in their lifetime.
Lemons

I’m kinda lost at the moment trying to figure out what’s next. For now I’ve got a big bag of lemons and I don’t know if I’m up for lemonade. I mean, you have to go find sugar and some water. You can’t really have lemonade without ice and you really need a nice big glass cup to really enjoy it. Still, there’s nothing like a nice cool glass of lemonade to hit the spot sometimes huh?
So what’s next? First, let’s see what tommorow holds…
New Digs
// July 28th, 2008 // No Comments » // Just Blogging
So last week was pretty hectic, but net result of all the madness is a new office/cube. I was/am helping with coordinating moves for the office of which we’re one third done. I have a nice cube with windows prett much all around me which is nice. I’ve had a window before, its something of a holy grail in cubicleland. Most people like them at first then hate the brightness and effect it has on their monitors. I’ve never really had that issue though.
I still can’t get my Sirius receiver to work in the office despite the abundance of windows. It’s nice to eat lunch then kick back with the legs up and just stare outside for a bit. Just now two people are playing tennis on the courts, there’s at least one jogger and I can expect to see some frisbee football or volleyball going on at least once this week. So in short, i’m liking the new digs. Now if the rest of the move can continue going smoothly.
The Weekend in Review. Verdict = meh
// July 22nd, 2008 // No Comments » // Just Blogging
Another lost weekend. Saturday started out decent, I actually did some cardio for the first time in probably 4-6 months. I was craving food from Alamo for some reason, so I tried to make the 3:40pm show but it was sold out due to the overflow from Batman. I then tried the Cinemark Round Rock but it was overrun as well. By this time I was starving and went and ate some crap because I was so hungry. =)
Sunday I found a 12:30 showing at Alamo at 12:10. I jumped in the car and made it on time to check out Hellboy II. It was a decent flick but I think I liked the first one a little better. Monday I went and saw Batman at 10:15 a.m. I had a really good workout that morning and didn’t want to ruin the momentum with popcorn and a hotdog so I got a large water and snuck in a nutrition bar for when I got hungry. I thought the movie was really good and really long. Afterwards I came home and crashed for a few hours, then cooked up my lunch on the BBQ pit for the week. I wanted to ad some tunes to my 128 mb (lol) mp3 player and spent all night not finding the CD’s. I also did more cardio! Pretty boring stuff huh?
Today was a good day

So.. first post in a really long time. But today was a good day. Actually theres been a lot more good days than bad. For starters, I’m on my sixth week straight at the gym, where i’ve only missed one day (5 days a week) the whole time. On Monday I really screwed up my ankle heading into the gym, but I went in and did a little bit of work before the pain got really bad.
Besides that, just been keeping a low profile. Had a great holiday weekend, got a new video camera (even though my old one was practically new) and played a few video games between my not posting. I twittered some, especially when I found myself in weird situations like not having a wallet to pay for a meal. Continue Reading
I’ve just had great Sex…
// May 30th, 2008 // No Comments » // Entertainment, Movies
Wow! Great freaking movie! I poo pooed the local review (4 out of 5 stars) but after seeing the movie I pretty much agree. If you were a fan of the series its a must see. Actually I wouldn’t mind seeing it again (just like Iron Man). Also, its a great place to meet women, literally. I counted maybe 8 guys total in a packed house. It was great outside the theatre as the groups got together and excitedly talked about the series. Some were dressed casual while others were made up a little more than usual and fellas there were definitely hotties around. The best part was at the end because there was no waiting for the men’s room. How could this not be a good thing for guys?
Anyway, go check it out. I think you will come away pleasantly surprised. And if you have a girlfriend or SO, you’ll get some good points for going.
I’m missing a month here…. Mulder?
// May 29th, 2008 // No Comments » // Just Blogging, Life, Movies, Play
Holy crap I haven’t posted in a month! I really don’t know where to begin other than to say this post won’t be long because I’m tired as hell. I was up late, got up early, then spent the rest of the day running around for no apparent reason, save one (I did have an appointment I had to make). Other than that it’s been all good. Mother’s day was great and I spent some quality time with the family. I actually got my pulse pen (ie Lightscribe) but even more crazy is I have yet to use it. That’s partly because it came a day before my week of vacation concluding tomorrow. But back to the ill conceived thought that this would be a short post..
So.. Sex and the City tomorrow. I’m on the hook to travel with a few coworkers (all women), so I will probably get the token gay member of the group pass (not that theres anything wrong with that) but no worries, I can deal. I was halfway thinking of dressing the part if I had something outrageously flamboyant. I’m not expecting much of the movie so it should be great! Truth be told I loved the series. It was smartly written and half of the stuff talked about could pose for stuff guys talk about with guy stuff substituted in. So in the end I guess we’re all not too different, save the venus and mars pieces.
Anyway there’s so much I wanna say and not enough time so i’ll just end now. We could always use more peeps to enjoy the flick so if you’re not doing anything around 10:30 a.m. and you’re near the Gateway theatre come on by!
I should really spell check this before…
Sleeeeep….
NC… No Class
// May 1st, 2008 // No Comments » // Entertainment, Just Blogging, Movies
Weird day today, first left my wallet at home and didn’t realize it until I was ready to pay at Mangias. Good thing I wasn’t alone or it would have been interesting. Next I drive all the way home from the Burnet/Domain area to Round Rock, grab my wallet then head back fighting traffic so that I can get to class all the way down 360 to Bee Caves. I’m 5 minutes out from class and I get a call saying that class has been cancelled because to many people have called to say they won’t make it. No big deal because I’m already pretty tired anyway.
I have a thought to skip out for a brew or two, but ever since I started on my new workout regimen I’ve been sleeping really freaking good the last few days and eating fairly decent (save for pizza today). Good thing I didn’t because I quite possibly just watched the best Survivor episode ever and i’ve seen them all.
Anyway, I know i’ve been a little lazy in updates the past few days. Between the workouts and real work, i’ve had little time for anything else. Good thing I’m taking off tomorrow to recharge! I’ll start the morning off with a good workout, decent breakfast, then relax until 10:30 when I go to check out Iron Man. That should be a pretty decent Friday, eh?
I Want To Believe
// April 24th, 2008 // No Comments » // Just Blogging, Life, Random Thoughts
Walking into the office today my thoughts turned to the poster from the X-Files that basically outlined Mulder’s being on the show. I’m not sure why it came up or why it resonated with me at that moment but it did. I started thinking about all the things that I wanted to believe in then I got a little sad. I remembered back to all the things that were possible when I was a little kid, how everything still seemed within reach even when I got older.
I think we all have moments like this at some point and sometimes they hit home harder than at other times as well. For me, it was a momentary lapse that made me pause and think longer about it than maybe I should have….or maybe not.
My week so far
// April 22nd, 2008 // No Comments » // Entertainment, Kindle, Life, Play
I’ve been doing alot more reading on my Kindle than I have in the past which I like. The main thing i’ve discovered is that reading more than one book on it is great. I have several books that i’m reading plus the local paper here in Austin. Since my mom was a librarian she was definitely happy that I was back into reading in a big way. She’s still a big reader and will sometimes finish a book in a day still, reading all night on the weekends. Crazy!
My buddy Tony from El Paso has been in town for the last few days. We played some Rock Band and hung out for the last few days while he was doing some work in town. Last night we went and hung out and I drunk way to many seven and sevens but otherwise had a great time. We’re planning to try and hit some games up in Denver this year, hopefully Paul will be starting!
